Genesis 13

Abraham has called

(Genesis 11: 27-12: 9)

God's calling of Abraham from Ur of the Chaldeans was not for the sake of Abraham alone, but for the sake of the entire work of God's salvation that would unfold after Abraham. God knew that this world would again be as wicked as it was in Noah's day. Noah's descendants had to learn from the judgment of the flood and humble themselves before God. However, not all of Noah's descendants followed a godly line. Of Noah's three sons, especially the descendants of Shem, continued the godly line, but even Shem's descendants mingled with others, and the world began to tilt toward evil again. The Tower of Babel incident was proof of that. After all, the world where Abraham lived was returning to the state before Noah's Flood.

So God called Abraham to protect and save the people he chose to save so that they would not be completely swept away by this world. In order for God's chosen ones to be saved and not lost until the end of the world, the light of truth had to shine anywhere. Someone had to continue the godly lineage of Abel, Seth, and Noah, fear God, worship Him properly, and continue to maintain true faith. Someone had to clearly keep and testify of the promise of the gospel. That is why God chose and called Abraham from eternity past to become an instrument of blessing to be used in his salvation history, and commanded him to leave his native land, his relatives, and his father's house and go to the land he would indicate.

God's calling is perfect. He prepares everything and calls. A lot of people

do not understand this part. Abraham also did not know. In His' time God have never failed. Therefore, we must struggle to receive the guidance of God.

1. Why Abraham was called

  1) To deliver a sinner (Ur of Chaldean)

  2) To deliver from the idol (leave the place)

  3) To give a new blessing (leave the father's house)

  4) For continued guidance (go to the land that I will show you)

2. Abraham's response to the call

  1) Gen. 11: 30-32 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they

set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.

  2) Gen. 12: 1-4. V. 4. So Abram left, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran.

  3) Gen. 12: 10-20 v.10. Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.

3. Abraham continues to fail

  1) Death of his brother

  2) Death of father

  3) The famine

  4) Go to Egypt

4. What did Abraham not know? (Key of Genesis)

When God calls us with some important plans He calls.

  1) God wants to save us from curse, unbelief, and idols (12: 1)

  2) God wants to make us to be the father of faith (12: 2)

  3) God wants to bless our family and our descendants (12: 2)

  4) God wants save other nations through us (12:20)

  5) God wants to make us be a witness of blessing (12: 3)

  6) God wants to us to build an altar wherever we go (12: 6-8)

  7) God wants to receive His new blessings and graces - "Leave" -

  8) God wants to us to plant seeds of salvation
