ABRAHAM AFTER VICTORY IN WAR

( Gen.15:1-7 )

 

  1) The Fall of Mankind and God’s Salvation Plan: After Adam’s incident of the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, God immediately established the Christ

     covenant. God begins chapter 12 of Genesis by calling Abraham at the point where God's hand of salvation begins for humanity, which was headed

     toward judgment and destruction as seen in Genesis chapters 1-11, including Noah's flood and the Tower of Babel incident.

 

  2) Abraham’s calling: 1 The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.

      2 "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

      3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."(Genesis 12:1-3)

 

  3) God’s declaration of salvation that he would establish ‘one nation’ by selecting a man named Abraham, who was living in Babylon, Mesopotamia!!

      The birth of the nation of Israel chosen as a nation of priests

 

1. Failure and successes of Abraham

 

  1) When Abraham has failed ?

    (1) Gen.12:10-20 When Abraham has unbelief and go to Egypt

    (2) Gen.13:1-17 When Abraham has unbelief and with Lot.

    (3) Gen.12:10-20 When Abraham brought Hagar from Egypt.

    (4) Gen.16:1-16 When Abraham has a son Ishmael through Hagar.

    (5) Gen.12:12-20 When Abraham told a lie that Sarai is his sister.

 

  2) When Abraham has succeed?

   (1) Gen.12:1-3 When Abraham left Chaldeans.

   (2) Gen.12:10-20 When Abraham go back to Canaan from Egypt.

   (3) Gen.13:14-15 When Abraham separated from Lot.

   (4) Gen.16:1-16 When Abraham sent away Ishmael.(Gen.21:8-21)

   (5) Gen.12:12-13:1 When Abraham realize his unbelief.

   (6) Gen.22:1-13 When Abraham believe the power of God completely.

 

2. Today’s Scripture says the work after Abraham has succeed.

  1) Gen.13:18 Abraham continue to build an alter to pray.

  2) Gen.14:14 Abraham maintain the successful life.

  3) Gen.14:21-24 Refuse the goods of the King Sodom.

  4) Gen.14:17-20 He received blessing from Melchizedek.  

 

3. At that time God’s given blessings and covenant to Abraham.

  1) God allow the source of the blessings. (Gen.15:1) After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield,          your very great reward. "

  2) God promise blessed offsprings. (Gen.15:4-5)

     He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars--if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him,

    "So shall your offspring be."

  3) He has faith and it became righteousness.(Gen.15:6) Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

 

Conclusion: Abraham, the father of faith

  1) Obedience and training of Abraham’s calling

   (1) At the age of 75, he followed his calling in the land of Haran.

   (2) He believed in the Lord’s promise to give the promised son Even when the situation was humanly impossible.

   (3) Offering the promised son again as a sacrifice to the Lord!!

   (4) God has been refining his life for over 40 years since he started his journey at age 75.

 

Purpose (Purpose of life), Possession or property (Wealth), People (Human relationships) He was trained in all these aspects.

 

 

And God trains us too. God trained all of God's people.
