BLESSING OF GOD FOR ISHMAEL

(Gen.17:20-27 )

 

Gen. 17: 26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that same day.

27 And every male in Abraham's household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.

 

God loves all people.(Jn.3:16) Because man is one blood line of Adam and His creation. However failure of descendants of Ishmael is man’s portrait that man could not realize Adam’s failure. And Ishmael is seed of Abraham’s unbelief, he did not consider covenant importantly.

 

1. The descendants of Ishmael who is an ancestor of unbelief

  1) People without covenant (Gen.12:1-3)

  2) Seed of unbelief (Gen.16:1-16, 17:1-8)

  3) Unbelief of descendants of Ishmael.

  

2. God gave blessings to Ishmael.

  1) God want to save gentiles.

  2) God blessed Ishmael when Abraham believed covenant of God. (Gen.17:19-20)

   (1) Destruction of non believer came because of believers.

   (2) Cause of idol worship is unconcern for evangelism.

   (3) Destruction of mankind came because People of the covenant lost covenant.  (Isa.40:12-31, Jer.33:1-2, Ps.50:20-22)

  3) Blessing that Ishmael received.

   (1) When Abraham believed covenant.(Gen.17:20)

   (2) Ishmael increase number and make him into great nation (Gen.17:20)

   (3) Sarah will bear Isaac(Gen.17:21)  

  4) Abraham circumcised.

    (1) When Ishmael was 13years old.(Gen.17:25)

   (2) And every male in Abraham’s house hold. (Gen.17:27)

 

3. Circumcision is contract of God’s covenant.

  1) To the chosen people

  2) To a child born of a woman slave.

  3) To gentile

  

Conclusion: Remember two commissions. (Eze.3:17-21)

 

  1) Witness to non believer

  2) Make believer to understand and to wake up.
