Genesis 26

THE CITY RECEIVES DESTRUCTION

(Genesis 19:15-29)

Introduction

  1) God's purpose in driving the earth

  2) Everyone's life purpose

  3) God's work of creation and the mystery of life

1. The reason that we should preach the gospel. (1 Cor.9:16)

Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

  1) Inner motive of evangelism. (Eph.2:1-7)

  2) Outer motive of evangelism.(Eph.2:1-2, Ac. 8:1-8)

  3) The result of die out of light of evangelismcaptive

     Jer. 33:1-9, Isa. 40:12-16, Gen.6:1-10, Gen.12:1, Gen.19:1-14, Gen.19:14

Gen.19:14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, "Hurry and get out of this place,

because the LORD is about to destroy the city!" But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

2. The land where put out of light of evangelism will be destroyed certainly.

  1) Historical event.

  2) Spiritual evidence of man.

  3) Evidence of scripture.

3. Gospel was proclaimed to Sodom and Gomorrah.

  1) Lot received grace.(Gen.19:16, 19)

    v. 16 When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city,

for the LORD was merciful to them.

  2) Lot’s children who did not realize but receive salvation forcedly.(Gen.19:16)

  3) People who has best condition of blessing but destroyed. (Gen.19:26)

But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

     Lk.17:32 Remember Lot's wife!

    (1) Wife of Abraham’s nephew.

    (2) Wife of Lot.

    (3) Directly hear the news of salvation.

   (4) Enter the situation of salvation but destroyed.

4. Lot receives grace(2 Peter 2:1-11)

v. 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;

v. 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men

v. 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--

Why God consider Lot as a righteous man. By the love of God to save Lot even though Lot did not do good thing. God saw that Lot was tormented in his righteous soul so God consider that Lot is righteous man.

Conclusion:

Lot delays and hesitates when he has to give up everything and leave Sodom quickly. We, too, may sometimes have to give up everything for the sake of our faith, but will you give up all these worldly riches that you have without hesitation or regret? Lot's wife did not obey the angel's command, and Lot's daughters did not even have the notion of what was right and wrong before God.

If we conclude with only the Gospel, the direction of our lives will be aligned only with evangelism, mission and raising the next generation. All needs are supplied by the Lord.
