Genesis 42

ISAAC WENT GERAR

(Gen. 26:1-11)

Let us not be afraid of poverty. In verse 1, there was a famine where Isaac lived. It is unknown how severe the famine was, but it was a considerable crisis for Isaac. Isaac leaves his place of residence and moves to Gerar, which gives some idea of the intensity of the famine. He went to Gerar to meet the famine and save his life. He is successful even if he just makes a living in Gerar. However, in this time of famine, Isaac did not perish but rather prospered. Isaac went to Gerar and farmed, and he got 100 times blessings in that year. It is normal to perish in a bad year, but it is truly amazing to receive a 100-fold blessing. Even in these difficult times, when most people are suffering from a recession, there are many people who are overflowing with blessings due to the booming economy. Who can block the blessings of God? In the main text, the famine that Isaac had to move did not prevent God's blessing.

2. Key point for four people.

  1) Abraham- Leave from Ur in Chaldea. (Gen.12:1-10)

  2) Isaac- Isaac prayed to the Lord. (Gen.25:21)

  3) Jacob- Your name will be Israel( Gen.32:28)

  4) Joseph- The Lord is with Joseph (Gen.39:2)

3. Isaac’s failure and God’s mercy.

  1) V.1 Situation, Environment, background, condition.

  2) V.2 The will of God, commend.

  3) VV.3-5 The blessing of God and promise for descendants.

  4) VV.6-7 Isaac’s unbelief.

  5) V.8 After have unbelief failure come.

  6) VV.9-11 Isaac was scolded by Abimelech.

4. The purpose of God.

  1) Evangelism.

Biblical evangelism refers to the life movement for evangelism, and this movement began in the Upper Room of Mark in the Early Church. To put it simply,        doing Darakbang is a movement to save the individual called ‘me’. I have to come alive first, and the first thing I have to do in order to live is

the acceptance movement. It is characteristic that the biblical evangelism movement emphasizes 'acceptance'. However, the acceptance should not

be forced. It is not a coercive injection, but it is a movement to be truly saved by meeting Christ and to receive the need of Jesus Christ by discovering it.        It is a life movement and a healing movement. The acceptance movement is a life and healing movement. So, if you gain the life of Jesus,

you will enjoy the power of Jesus.

  2) Method

Those who emerge from the process of creating this movement are workers. We are saying that workers are needed objectively in order to convey

the need for evangelism now, but when the life movement and acceptance movement are actually carried out, workers will appear in the field.

When they appear, they play the role of leader, EBS (Evangelism Bible Study: individual nurturing), TBS (Team Bible Study: skill nurturing),

GBS (Group Bible Study: group nurturing). Often, when we think of the field first, we say that we need workers. But workers come out.

From there, the leader, EBS, TBS, and GBS workers come out. When that movement takes place all at once, it is called Darakbang evangelism.

     (1) Like Yeast, Snake.

     (2) Witness(Power)

  3) Non- believers looking for some thing. We need to witness the existence and work of God.

Christ is truly a prophet. John 14:6 ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ There is a background before

and after the Lord said this. To put it simply, ‘there is no one to go to my father’ means ‘I am unable to go now’. Then why can't you go? By Genesis 3,

humans have lost their way and are spiritually held in the hands of Satan. It means that all of man went their own way(Isa. 53). There is no way.

It is the individual's own view of life that each person went their own way. And going to each road, toiling and carrying heavy burdens, and at the end of life,

to express it in an extreme way, leaving a house behind. Studying hard and leave house and going back. It is the life of unbelievers to take on debt

and hand it over to their son. Is a house really the only thing we eat and leave behind in our lives? Even knowing such a reality, life has no choice

but to live like that. Because there is no clear path.

However, our Lord opened a new and living path by dying himself. As he died, he cut the veil and opened the way to salvation.

The way to salvation is to open up the new values of life. that is the christ. We humans have no power.

Conclusion:

Saints, like Abraham and Isaac, are those who have already received the promise of the kingdom of God. Fulfilling that promise and passing it on to

my descendants is a life of obedience to God's Word. What are the obstacles to living an obedient life?

Matthew Henry, a world-renowned theologian and preacher, was robbed one night. On his way home, a robber attacked him and beat him until

the blood flowed and took away all his money. Upon returning home, the theologian first knelt down and prayed. “Thank God I am in the position of

being robbed. Money was taken, but no life was taken, so thank you. I am grateful that I can pray for the thief who harassed me.

May he never live as a robber again.”
