Genesis 47
TO THE CHILD WHO WILL GO TO THE FIELD OF LIFE
( Gen 28:1-9)
Introduction:
Jacob could no longer live with his parents, so he had to travel a long way alone. Jacob received the blessing of the firstborn, but became a miserable
fugitive running away from his brother Esau. How must it have felt for Jacob, who abandoned his comfortable family overnight and became a fugitive
who was about to be killed by his older brother? Jacob met the God of Bethel through the illusion of a ladder in a lonely and fearful time alone.
God met Jacob personally and promised to always be with him wherever he went. I pray that all of us will also meet the God of Bethel who was with Jacob.
At the time, Jacob lived in Beersheba, and his uncle Laban lived in Haran. It is a long distance from Beersheba to Haran, about 800 km away.
It is about 400 km from Seoul to Busan. Therefore, to go from Beersheba to Haran, it is a round-trip distance from Seoul to Busan.
Even if you walk 30 km a day, it is a long distance that takes about a month.
Though there is origin and motive God makes that Esau and Jacob can not live together. Conflict is new jump and God’s plan. God prepare new world and important things for Jacob who flee from anger of his brother. At that time his parent tell important thing to Jacob.
1. Isaac called Jacob and blessed him.
1) Gen.9:21-29 The authority of blessing of parent.(Noah)
2) Dt.21:5 The authority of blessing of priest.
3) Gen.49:1-33 The blessing and prophecy of Jacob.
4) Gen.27:1-29 The blessing of Isaac to Jacob and Esau.
2. Isaac Commended Jacob the place where he will go.

your mother's brother.

3) Upper area of Euphrates (Gen33:18, 46:15)
* Make Jacob to see the World wide.
The blessing that children of God must enjoy.
3. Isaac consider meeting and marriage importantly and Blessed Jacob.
1) Caution (Gen28:1)
v. 1 So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him and commanded him: "Do not marry a Canaanite woman.
2) Commend right marriage (Gen28:2)
v. 2 Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother's father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban,
your mother's brother.
* Meeting determines all things. Marriage determines many things.
4. Isaac blessed Jacob to know almighty God.
1) God almighty(Gen.28:3)
v. 3 May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples.
2) Bless you (Gen.28:3)
3) Make you fruitful and increase the number(Gen.28:3)
5. Marriage of Esau(Gen.28:6-9)
v. 6 Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him
he commanded him, "Do not marry a Canaanite woman,"
v. 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram.
v. 8 Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac;
v. 9 so he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.
Conclusion:
Now, the age of Isaac, the second patriarch, has gradually disappeared, and the age of Jacob has arrived. The leading role in the history of redemption started with Abraham and continued with Isaac, and now the prelude is being introduced with his sons, Jacob and Esau, especially Jacob. From this chapter,
the life of Jacob, who lived a more eventful life than anyone else, begins. It records the scene of Isaac sending Jacob to Haran to preserve the pure
lineage of the covenant (vv. 1-5) and the incident of Esau marrying the daughter of Ishmael, who is of Abraham's lineage, to win the favor of his parents
(vv. 6-9). And Jacob, on his way to Haran, meets God at Bethel and receives the blessing given to Abraham and Isaac (vv. 10-22). This is an important event
that acknowledges that Jacob inherited the legitimacy of the covenant. Accordingly, Jacob made a vow to God to build the temple and tithe.
God personally met Jacob, who ran away from his older brother Esau, and promised to always be with him wherever he went. It becomes a place of
blessing where we meet God personally in difficult and hard situations in our lives. There are many hard and difficult things in reality,
but I pray that you will meet the God of Bethel and overcome them well. I pray that all of us will live a life of worshiping and serving God after meeting
the God of Bethel every day.
I hope that you will boldly break the old frame and equip yourself with a new frame in which you can receive answers, and lead a new life that is
completely different from the previous one. “Only the will of Jehovah will stand completely!” I hope you believe that if you only hold on to the will of
Jehovah and take on the challenge of faith, all unfavorable conditions and handicaps will become a stepping stone for your spiritual growth.
