Genesis Lesson 49

NEW START OF JACOB

(Gen 29: 1-20)

Introduction:

Jacob's life changed after God met him and gave Jacob the baton of the covenant he had given to Abraham and Isaac. The footsteps of Jacob, who held on to the covenant, became strong and light. Jacob traveled a long distance of over 900 km to Haran as lightly as if he were walking a short distance. This shows us how happy and hopeful Jacob was.

Until now, Jacob had only thought that God was the God of his grandfather Abraham and the God of his father Isaac, but he came to know that the Almighty God is his God. He thought this path of life away from his father was the path he took alone, but he was greatly encouraged by the fact that Almighty God is with him.

Jacob came to confirm the actual covenant of Genesis, which he had held on to through Abraham and Isaac, through God on the throne.

Verse 1 of the main text records “Then Jacob continued on his journey”. This means that he raise his foot vigorously. This means that he has taken his first step powerfully. After receiving grace from Bethel, he was able to take the first step vigorously even though it was a long and difficult journey of 900 km.

Fear is expected, but he was able to start the journey happily. Even a long way felt close. Even the rough and dangerous road was enjoyable. Jacob,

who used to hide behind his mother, is starting a new life as a manager.

Conclusion:

God's grace made weak Jacob strong. It changed him from helpless to a person full of motivation and strength. He who was darkness before meeting God has now become light. The despair and frustration that had gripped him before turned into courage and hope after the wonderful experience at Bethel. Jacob did what people said was impossible. The shepherds said that one or two could not roll away the great stone covering the well. Jacob believed that God was with him and rolled a large stone out of the well. He held on to the word of God and believed that God was with him.

“God promised to be with me on my way. God has a purpose and plan for sending me to Paddan Aram. God promised that he would never leave me or forsake me. God has promised me that he will be with me until he fulfills what he promised me.” Jacob believed all of this.

Before, Jacob's life fell behind his older brother Esau and was only frustrated. When did he change like this? It was changed by God's grace and amazing promises. Since the God of Abraham and Isaac met him, he began to change. Witnessing this tremendous sight, Rachel ran home and told her father Laban

the news of Jacob, and Laban gladly came out and received Jacob (v. 13).

The new life of Jacob, who held on to the covenant, began. It was a life of gaining the chiefs of the 12 tribes and gathering large property to lay the foundation for returning to the land of Canaan. I hope you too will hold fast to the covenant and enjoy the blessings of the throne and take a strong start.
