Genesis 58
THE URGENT PROBLEM OF YOUTH
(Gen.34:1-31)
Introduction:
After his relationship with his older brother Esau was resolved, Jacob built an altar in Shechem, where he was staying at the time, and called it “El Elohe Israel.” This altar, which means ‘El, the God of Israel,’ was an altar symbolizing God who was with him. There, Jacob's daughter Dinah is raped. In this text, there are
important problems that believers realistically encounter while living in the world. It deals with what kind of relationship believers in Jesus should have with
people in the world and how they should live when mixed with people who have different values of faith and life and different purposes in life.
In other words, it is a question about the relationship between believers and the world. Chapter 34 of Genesis records three mistakes Jacob and his family
made in their relationship with the world.
1. Jacob and his family who were close to the world
2 Jacob compromises with the world
3. The sons who deceived the world and committed mass murder.
The World Scholars Conference cited the most urgent common problems are youth problems. Horrible crimes are being committed by youth.
1. Existing Youth Issues
1) Violence
2) Runaway
3) Rape
4) Human trafficking
5) Participation in organized crime
6) Addiction(Drug, game, computer, alcohol, gambling etc.)
7) New Age Movement
(1) Man is God
(2) Satan worship
(3) Christianity is the enemy of mankind
(4) Man saves man
(5) New Age goal
(6) Children are turned into evil
(7) Paradise on earth without Jesus
(8) Corruption through music
(9) Anti-Christian meditation books
(10) Promoting superstitions
2. The greatest method to heal those problems is the Word of God.
1) The physical word
2) An ethical statement
3) Spiritual Word
3. Reasons for Youth Problem
1) Complex home problems (Gen 34: 1) Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land.
2) Jacob's question of faith (Gen 34: 1)
3) The rape case is arise (Genesis 34: 2-7)
4) Flooding of disbelief (Genesis 34:8-17)
5) Unbelieving covenant (Genesis 34:18-23)
6) The murderous event bursts (Gen 34: 24-31)
4. Solution (Genesis 35: 1)
Then God said to Jacob, "Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau."
Conclution:
All humans live under the rule of the devil, the king of the world. In a world where obscenity and violence are rampant, people live in disorder, competing for survival.
Among them, even in Genesis 34, where the Church of Elohe Israel was established, people kill, are killed, rob, and lie. In order to always win the spiritual battle,
we must firmly hold on to the faith of Bethel and the throne-centered faith.
