Genesis 61

The Death of Rachel

(Genesis 35:16-29)

Introduction:

The passage records the death of Rachel and Isaac.

Job 1:20-22

v. 20. At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship

v. 21.and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD

      be praised."

v. 22. In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

Everyone once on this Earth must go back to his home country.

Job 19:25-26 reads, “yet without my flesh I shall see God.”

Heb. 9:27 It is appointed for all men to die once.

1. The physical body is as important as the soul.

  1) The opportunity of salvation

  2) The opportunity of rewards

  3) The opportunity of evangelism

2. The realization of salvation in reference to time

  1) The solution of future problems (Eph. 2:6)

  2) The solution of past problems (Eph. 2:1)

  3) The solution of present problems (Eph. 2:2)

     Enjoyment (Eph. 2:7)

3. Therefore the present (now) of one who is saved is very important.

  1) Ac. 1:11, 1:1-2, 1:8

  2) Job. 19:25-26, 1:20-22, 23:10-14

4. Those who are saved must enjoy the blessings of Bethel

  1) Gen. 35:9-15

  2) Phil. 3:1-20

  3) Eph. 1:3, 10, 1:20-22

  4) Col. 1:29, 2:3

5. Rachel’s death

  1) God’s time (Heb. 9:27) Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

  2) In God’s eyes, Jacob didn’t need Rachel

  3) Gen. 29:20 So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.

  4) Gen. 31:34 Now Rachel had taken the household gods and put them inside her camel's saddle and was sitting on them. Laban searched through

everything in the tent but found nothing.

  5) Gen. 35:1-4

Conclusion:

Just as Jacob was trying to move forward proudly under the name of Israel, his beloved wife Rachel died. In order to quickly escape from that sadness,

he buried his beloved wife on the road and set off. However, it happens again that the eldest son Reuben has an affair with his concubine Bilhah.

Although unbearable sorrow occurs one after another, Jacob does not stop on his way and continues to Mamre, where his father Isaac is.

The early church members suffered tremendous persecution because they were Christians. However, despite the tremendous persecution,

they bore the most amazing fruit of faith in history. We too can experience sadness or pain.

No matter what difficulties we face, let us move forward strong and boldly, believing in the Lord who helps us.
