Exodus 20

The Tree Thrown into the Bitter Waters of Marah (Exodus 15:22-27)

The Israelites, put the blood of the Passover lamb, were completely liberated from Egyptian slavery after the miracle of

the Red Sea. At this time, Moses, along with the children of Israel, praised the God of salvation and the God who accomplished

the miracle of the Red Sea.

Because Egypt opposed God, their land was devastated, the people mourned, and their army was destroyed.

Other surrounding countries also cowered in fear upon hearing the power of the God of Israel.

Because of the power of Jehovah, the nations, including the Philistines, Edom, and Moab, trembled

and the residents of Canaan became discouraged (verses 14-15). Surprise and fear were conveyed to them.

Moses' song of victory in the text sings that God will lead the Israelites to the promised land.

Moses also sings that Jehovah will rule over his people forever.

1. Israel’s confession “ I will sing unto the LORD,” (verse 1).

1) Verse 2 connects me and God more than 5 times in one verse.

2) The children of Israel call God ‘my God.’

3) Israel was completely liberated by crossing the Red Sea on dry land.

4) Israel could not escape from being a wandering people who had just been liberated from slavery.

2. Israel’s praise with Moses and Miriam as leaders

1) Israel witnessed the power of God who annihilated the Egyptian army.

2) They confessed and praised God that the source of all their power was God.

3) We are saved because of God’s love through Jesus Christ.

4) Therefore, the only thing our believers can boast about is Jesus Christ.

3. The Israelites were now led into the wilderness.

1) Israel again murmured and complained to Moses because of the bitter water at Marah.

2) Each individual's resentments and complaints hurt each other and cause pain.

3) The Israelites complained even though they had experienced the miracle of the Red Sea just three days before.

4) God heard Moses’ prayer and showed him a tree symbolizing the cross.

Conclusion: God revealed the secret of the covenant and established laws.

1) After showing the miracle of Mara, God established a statute and an ordinance,’

2) In verse 26, ‘doing what is right in my eyes’ means believing in and following Christ.

3) If you entrust it to God, crisis becomes an opportunity.

4) When Moses cried out to Jehovah God, the mystery of the cross was revealed to him in advance.

Even problems that seem impossible to solve in our eyes can be easily solved by the Almighty Lord.

Who would have thought that the Red Sea would part?

Who would have known that bitter water could turn into sweet water just by throwing a tree at it?

Even if it seems impossible to solve the problems in our lives, hold on to the word He gives us today and leave it to the Lord.

God helps us in ways and means we could not imagine.

After the miracle of Marah, God, who made them hold on to the covenant of Christ alone, led the people to an oasis called Elim.

Like Moses, come before God, pray with faith, and hold on to God even more. When we obey in faith until the end,

healing and restoration will occur. I bless you in the name of the Lord that you will not test God but trust Him.
