Exodus 24.

The Way to Success in Evangelism and Pastoral Ministry (Exodus 18:1-27)

Verse 1 of the text says, “Now Jethro, the priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses, heard of everything God had done

for Moses and for his people Israel, and how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.”

From this, it seems that Israel's Exodus was a shocking event to the surrounding peoples at the time, and because of that,

rumors spread far and wide. When Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, heard this rumor, he must have felt the need to meet Moses

in person and check if it was true. So he came to Moses with his wife and children.

1. Faith comes from hearing the gospel of Christ.

1) The fundamental problem of man and the only way to salvation must be widely spread.

2) When the correct gospel is preached, those who are destined to be saved will be saved.

3) At Kadesh towards the end of the 40 years in the wilderness Moses me-center came back again.

4) After receiving the gospel from Moses as Galatians 2:20, Jethro came to believe in Christ.

2. Jethro’s confession of faith after hearing and accepting the gospel

1) He confessed in verse 11, “Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods.”

2) Until then, Jethro had been a priest serving the guardian god of Midian.

3) The moment he heard Moses’ testimony, his view of God had no choice but to collapse.

4) He recognized and confessed that the only true God is Jehovah God.

3. Jethro’s advice to Moses and Israel after receiving the gospel

1) Jethro discovered that all trials in the Israelite camp were entrusted to Moses.

2) Moses had to handle at least 200 trials a day.

3) Jethro gave Moses two advices, and Moses accepted the advices.

4) No achievement in the world can be achieved alone.

Conclusion: Former slaves are raised up into Jehovah’s army

1) In fact, Israel was slaves of Egypt until recently.

2) God uses His workers with different gifts.

3) Jethro proposes a new organization and administrative system using the wisdom given by the Lord.

4) The meekness and humility of Moses is the right attitude for a church leader.

Jethro now heard from Moses about the covenant of Christ and the work of God revealed in the Exodus.

He finally came to know who God is, why humans need the gospel, and what the gospel is.

He was able to see in a new way the existence and power of God, who protects and guides the people chosen by Jehovah,

the absolute one God. This fact can be clearly seen through his confession.

Jethro said, ‘Now I know.’ This shows that we are now finally realizing clearly what we did not know in the past.

Jethro became a man of evangelism, rejoicing and praising only God, who had given the covenant of Christ through

the testimony of Moses. Moses also accepted his father-in-law's advice from a place of meekness and humility

and was able to upgrade Jehovah's army.

I hope that you too will be of great use.
