Leviticus 8.
Priestly Ordination Ceremony (Leviticus 8:1-21)
V. 21. “He washed the inner parts and the legs with water and burned the whole ram on the altar as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma,
an offering made to the LORD by fire, as the LORD commanded Moses.”
chapter 1 to chapter 7 of Leviticus talked about the sacrificial system. Now, in chapter 8, Aaron and his sons are appointed as priests
so that the sacrificial system can be implemented. In this way, the first priests are appointed for the Israelites. Previously, the patriarchs,
Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, built altars and offered sacrifices. However, now the Israelites build a tabernacle according to the law
and offer sacrifices through priests. On the priests’ chests are twelve gems with the names of the twelve tribes written on them,
and on their shoulders are two gems with the names of the twelve tribes written on them. In the New Testament era,
we who believe were established as royal priesthood.
1. The priests were directly appointed by God.
1) God appointed the priests of Israel separately.
2) However, the priests were also just sinful human beings.
3) Just like the priestly garments, Christ has clothed us today.
4) The anointing symbolizes the coming of the Holy Spirit.
2. He anointed them and made them offer sacrifices
1) Aaron and his sons were anointed in priestly garments.
2) The first sacrifice offered by the priests was a sin offering.
3) The second sacrifice offered was a burnt offering.
4) The third sacrifice offered for the ordination was unique (v. 23).
3. The priestly ordination ceremony lasted for a week.
1) The one-week ordination ceremony period signifies the rest of one’s life.
2) Priests are people who focus on the Word of God.
3) God called us, who have many faults and shortcomings, to be kingly priests.
4) We were to live in the Lord’s name at all times and in all places.
Conclusion: Our lives as spiritual priests who serve Christ
1) The high priest of the Old Testament is a symbol of Jesus Christ.
2) The ordination ceremony of the priests in today’s passage is also our ordination ceremony.
3) God wants our holiness before our service and ministry.
4) Verses 23-24 means to apply blood to the whole body.
God appointed Aaron and his sons as priests to the Israelites. God allowed the Israelites to come to the tabernacle and offer sacrifices
through the priests. In the same way, God allowed us to come to God through Jesus Christ and established us as a royal priesthood
to the world. God told us that when eat or drink or whatever we do, to do it all for the glory of God. The seven days of the priestly
inauguration ceremony are a complete number. After being commissioned as a priest, the rest of your life is to be held completely
in the hands of the Holy Spirit in the Lord Jesus Christ and to live together with God. To do this, there are three things you must hold
on to and live by: The seven days of the priestly ordination ceremony represent the remaining life on this earth.
This is a life of enjoying the blessings of the throne and living as a small Christ toward the world.
This is the life of the 24 discipleship, and the easiest and happiest life.
I pray in the name of the Lord that you may enjoy the life of the priestly ordination ceremony and bear much fruit.
