Leviticus 10
The Most Important Thing for Us as Priests (Leviticus 10:1-20)
V. 1. “Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense;
and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command.”
Today’s passage tells us that we, as priests of God, need two important attitudes in serving God. There are things we must do
and things we mustn’t do according to God’s Word. God is a God of love, but He is also a God of justice, and He judges.
Through the terrifying incident of the deaths of Nadab and Abihu, God instructed Aaron and his children in detail the things
that priests who serve God must keep in mind. Aaron learned a great lesson at the cost of losing his two sons.
Leviticus chapters 8-10 are words given to the priests. In chapter 8, the priests are commissioned, and in chapter 9,
when the first sacrifices are offered by the priests, all the people cheer and bow down when the fire of God burns the sacrifices.
At this time, the person in charge can easily become proud and tense up his neck.
Immediately after, in chapter 10, a failed sacrifice is reported.
1. The incorrect sacrifices and deaths of the two priests (1-3)
1) As priests, we must hold on to the Word given and enjoy the blessings of the 24 hour-throne.
2) But why did the priests Nadab and Abihu receive such severe punishment?
3) Each of them took fire from a place other than the altar of burnt offering for their censers.
4) Foolish humans can go down the path of pride even after experiencing the greatest grace.
2. The Word given through the death of the priests Nadab and Abihu
1) The most important thing for priests is to follow the Word of God.
2) Losing the presence of God, the Word, is like losing one's life.
3) Believers are a royal priesthood.
4) Emmanuel is enjoyed when we hold on to the Word and meditate on it.
3. Special words given to the high priest Aaron (8-11)
1) The words of verses 8-9 are given right after the death of Nadab and Abihu.
2) The reason why one should not drink wine or fermented drink when entering the tabernacle.
3) Wine and strong drink make people foolish (Prov. 20:1).
4) Wine and strong drink can also be a means of enjoying pleasure and abundance.
Conclusion: Priests must live by holding onto the Word of God
1) Priests must be examples of those who hold onto the Word of God.
2) Priests who stand at the forefront of the people.
3) The Word that God gives us is God Himself.
4) If the front row is off, the back row will be even more off.
Aaron and his remaining two sons must have thoroughly realized the meaning of standing before God through this incident.
The center of worship and life is always God, and we must offer worship and life that please God.
Galatians 6:7 says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
I hope that you remember that God deserves our complete obedience, hold on to the Word He gives you through the pulpit,
and live a life that enjoys the blessings of Immanuel.
I bless you in the name of the Lord to always keep your eyes and heart fixed on the Lord,
to serve your neighbors according to the Word, to live a blessed life of saving lives,
and to be a witness of the Lord anytime, anywhere.
