Leviticus 12.

Regulations for the Purification of a Mother after Childbirth

(Leviticus 12:1-8)

V. 8. “If she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for the burnt offering

and the other for the sin offering. In this way, the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.”

Leviticus 11-15 is the word about the laws of purity. Leviticus does not condemn unclean states as sin. For example,

Leviticus defines states such as having a skin disease, bleeding a lot from the body, or touching the carcass of an animal

as 'unclean.' Simply put, it refers to a state in which the body is weakened or has a high risk of infection.

In the case of becoming unclean by touching the carcass of an animal, it will be clean just by washing with water

on the evening of that day. In the case of a woman having menstruation, a 7-day recovery period is set.

The word about the regulations for the purification of a mother after childbirth recorded in Chapter 12 of the passage

can be said to be a picture that easily shows the gospel of salvation.

It is to inform the original human, the fundamental problem, and the only answer.

1. Regulations regarding the period during which a mother is purified.

1) It was said that if a mother gives birth to a male child, she is unclean for seven days.

2) In the case of giving birth to a male child, the mother must live in isolation for 40 days.

3) Why was the period after childbirth called an unclean period?

4) 40 days after giving birth to a son, 80 days after giving birth to a daughter.

2. The regulations for the purification of a mother are for physical health.

1) It means that a woman who has given birth needs time to recover because she has become weak.

2) The purification period was a measure to protect the mother and the newborn.

3) In the past, housework and farming were the responsibility of women.

4) It is necessary for the mother to have time and space to take good care of the newborn and rest.

3. The regulations for the purification of a mother also include a deep spiritual meaning.

1) The reason why the pain and labor of pregnancy and childbirth were greatly increased.

2) After committing original sin in Genesis 3 --> Psalm 51:5.

3) The role of Adam's descendants and women, in whom original sin continues to be committed.

4) Eve was made by taking a part of Adam's body.

Conclusion: The way a person can be forgiven of sin and be purified.

1) Jesus Christ is the only one who has opened this way.

2) Couples should deeply meditate on Genesis 1-3 during the period of conception and purification.

3) Circumcision is a painful cutting ritual of covenant.

4) All Israeli boys were circumcised on the eighth day after birth. It was to let us know that we must live with our covenant with Christ.

In the Gospels, Matthew 19:13-15, Mark 10:13-15, and Luke 18:15-17, Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me,

and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." He hugged them and blessed them.

In our church today, we should regularize putting our hands on and praying and blessing for pregnant women, mothers,

and children. Just as the circumcision of the Old Testament is a sign of the covenant made with the descendants of Abraham,

the circumcision of the heart in the New Testament is rebirth and the grace given to God's chosen people in Christ Jesus.

Leviticus 12 shows that humans are born with original sin, and that to break free from the shackles of original sin,

there must be faith that relies on the grace of God and the atonement of Jesus Christ.

I bless you to start with only the gospel from conception and childbirth.
