Leviticus 16.
The Day of Atonement and the Covenant of Christ (Leviticus 16:1-10)
Verse 10: "But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive to the Lord to be used for making atonement
by sending it into the wilderness as a scapegoat."
Psalm 14:1 says, "The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good." A person with a sound mind, living in this vast world they did not create,
cannot deny the Creator God. Every individual will face the moment when they must return to the God who granted them life.
Therefore, Amos 4:12 says, "prepare to meet your God." Leviticus 16 speaks of how humans, who have rebelled against God
and become their own masters, can enter the path of meeting God.
1. Creator God and man created in the image of God
1) Man was a being who ruled and lived in a wonderfully mysterious world that he did not create.
2) However, the moment he held on to the devil’s lies, he was cut off from God.
3) God established the only covenant that could save him (Genesis 3:15).
4) Leviticus 16 contains regulations regarding the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).
2. The way for sinful humans to approach God
1) The background of the establishment of the Day of Atonement is recorded in Chapter 16, Verse 1.
2) Only through the established path is it possible to approach God.
3) Only the high priest can enter the Most Holy Place once a year on the Day of Atonement.
4) Inside the Most Holy Place is the Ark of the Covenant, and the upper lid of the Ark of the Covenant is also called the “Mercy Seat.”
3. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22).
1) Jesus Christ is the reality of the Christ covenant in Genesis 3:15
2) Not just anyone can be the high priest who can offer a sin offering for our sins.
3) The office of the high priest who offers a sin offering on the Day of Atonement has unique characteristics.
4) Even the high priest Aaron was required to be extremely humble and lowly.
Conclusion: The atonement offering of the high priest on the Day of Atonement
1) The first step is that the high priest must atone for his own sins and those of his family because he is also a sinner.
2) The second step is to sanctify the tabernacle and atone for the sins of all the people of Israel.
3) The third step is to sanctify the altar of burnt offering, and the fourth step is the ordinance of the male goat for Azazel.
4) The fifth step is that the high priest offers a burnt offering for himself and all the people of Israel.
At this time, all the people in front of the tent of meeting must fast, confess their sins, and repent. You must believe
and rely on the Atonement sacrifice offered by the high priest as being for you.
Only then will you receive the blessing of forgiveness of sins and be reconciled to God.
We, who fell under original sin with Adam and became our own masters, must acknowledge that we have lived in all sorts of sins, repent, and accept and live with only Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. After that, the remaining life must be lived
holding onto the "3 Todays" in Christ Jesus and walking according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In the name of the Lord,
I bless you to live as God's co-workers who enjoy the blessings of the throne of heaven and save those around you.
