Leviticus 18.

Do Not Defile Yourselves (Leviticus 18:24-30)

Verse 30: “Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced in this land

before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.”

It is only natural that God's people must be sexually pure in order to be holy. Including sexual offenses in Leviticus means

that sexual offenses are not horizontal relationship sins between humans, but vertical relationship sins with God.

The sexual offenses listed in Chapter 18, which I prefer not to read it's not conducive to grace, are incest (6-18), adultery (22),

homosexuality (23), bestiality (23), etc.

All indecent sexual relations with partners other than formally married couples were included.

1. The reality of the idolatrous religions of Egypt and Canaan at that time

1) Their temple sacrificial rites, in which they made and served various idols, were chaotic.

2) Israel regretted the chaotic parties they had when they served Egyptian idols.

3) They made a golden calf idol and served it while Moses was away at Mount Sinai.

4) The result of the Moabite women participating in the sacrifices to Baal Peor in Numbers 25.

2. Even under the protection of the pillar of fire and the pillar of cloud, they were deceived.

1) The roots of self-centeredness and flesh-centeredness are so deep in humans.

2) As it says in Romans 1:18-20, there is no excuse for God not existing.

3) We must know that there is a God who governs the life and death of people.

4) After the Exodus, many people longed for their old slave life and perished.

3. Sexual issues were the snare Israel was most likely to get caught in.

1) Verse 24 of today’s passage says, “Do not defile yourselves” with all of these things.

2) Because sexual issues are secretive, it is easy to fall into them on your own.

3) God says that we should not commit adultery with our own blood relatives.

4) Unbelievers have no concept of sexual sins being a mortal sin.

Conclusion: How should we serve this sinful world?

1) We must know why we must hold on to and follow the Word of God.

2) Not holding on to the Word means not recognizing God as your God.

3) Israel absolutely had to hold on to and follow the Word of God.

4) The family is the basic framework that constitutes society.

A lewd and corrupt sexual culture is the hallmark of world culture. Humans who have left God want to decide everything

for themselves and do what is right in their own eyes. This is most evident in the area of sex.

This issue is a very private area, so they claim that no one can interfere and that they have the right to decide as they please.

As a result, the distinction between man and woman that God has set is becoming blurred, and the marriage system

and marital relationship that God has allowed for sex are also becoming precarious.

Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

I pray that you will hold on to the given Word and be victorious.
