Leviticus 20
You Are to Be Holy to Me (Leviticus 20:22-27)
Verse 26: “You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.”
Leviticus 20 seems to repeat the contents of chapter 18. However, the important difference is that chapter 18 mainly said
what forbidden acts were, while chapter 20 emphasizes what punishment would be received for doing such forbidden acts.
What is the lesson this Word gives us? God says that He is not only the One who establishes the laws that people must keep,
but also the One who judges according to those laws. The holy God is a righteous ruler and judge.
1. Idolatry is the greatest offense against God.
1) The punishment for forbidden sacrifices, such as the sacrifice to Moloch, is stoning to death (2).
2) Moloch is the Ammonite god who "demands human sacrifice."
3) Idolatry always leads to a vulgar and disgusting life.
4) Verses 22-23
2. God commands us to protect the families He has established.
1) Disregarding our parents is disregarding God, the One who gave us life.
2) Compare a family that follows God's Word to a family that lives according to our their will.
3) We must keep in mind that the core of original sin is being my own master.
4) We who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior must have a different starting point.
3. Those who have received new life must live a new life.
1) The reason why we must enter into a holy life ourselves.
2) Verse 26 is a declaration of God's love.
3) Here, we must ask ourselves a fundamental question.
4) If we neglect our special relationship with God, we are following the world's path.
Conclusion: If we are bound by self-centeredness, we cannot recognize sin as sin.
1) Romans 8:5-6.
2) Unbelievers who do not believe in God do not have this kind of heart.
3) Romans 8:13-14, Galatians 5:16.
4) Our will as believers must simply follow the thoughts of the Holy Spirit.
In Leviticus 20, almost all the crimes that God abhors are connected to "must be put to death."
It reveals how much God abhors and will never tolerate leaving Jehovah God, who is the Creator and Savior,
following the evil customs of Canaan (the world), worshiping idols, and committing crimes such as incest. 'Holiness',
which is turning away from sin before God, vividly shows that it is not simply an ethical and moral issue,
but a matter of eternal life and death. If God's people resemble the world, love the world, and chase after the world,
they can no longer maintain their identity as God's people. I pray in the name of the Lord that you will not follow
the disgusting world culture, but hold onto the Word given in Christ and always be victorious by following
the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
