딤후4:2 인생의 목적과 사명

사도바울은 그의 마지막 서신서인 디모데후서의 끝부분에서 아들 같은 제자 디모데에게 마지막 말, 유언과 같은 말을 남깁니다. “하나님 앞과 산 자와 죽은 자를 심판하실 그리스도 예수 앞에서 그의 나타나실 것과 그의 나라를 두고 엄히 명하노니, 너는 말씀을 전파하라 때를 얻든지 못 얻든지 항상 힘쓰라 범사에 오래 참음과 가르침으로 경책하며 경계하며 권하라”는 것입니다. 왜 이렇게 엄한 명령을 성경을 읽는 모든 사람에게 유언처럼 남기는 것일까요? 모든 사람이 영원한 지옥 형벌을 선고받은 운명에 묶여, 잠시 세상에서 집행유예 기간을 사면 복권 받을 유일한 기회로 살고 있기 때문입니다. 주어진 삶의 기회에 사면 복권 받지 못하면 선고받은 그대로 영원한 지옥 형벌에 처해집니다. 사면 복권 받을 수 있는 유일한 방법은 예수그리스도를 구주로 영접하여 모시는 것입니다.

1. 인생의 목적은 예수그리스도를 구주로 모시고 새 생명 얻는 것입니다.

아담 안에 있었던 모든 각 사람은 각자에게 정해진 시대와 지역과 부모 밑에서 육신의 삶을 살게 되는데, 구원받을 수 있는 유일한 기회로 부여받아 사는 것입니다. 선고받은 영원한 지옥 형벌에서 사면 복권 받는 것이 구원입니다. 구원받을 수 있는 유일한 길이신 예수그리스도께서 우리의 모든 죄를 대신 지시고 십자가에 못 박혀 죽으셨습니다. 장사한 지 사흘 만에 부활하신 예수그리스도께서는 지금도 살아계시며 전도자들을 통해서 각 사람의 마음의 문을 노크하고 계십니다. “볼찌어다 내가 문밖에 서서 두드리노니 누구든지 내 음성을 듣고 문을 열면 내가 그에게로 들어가 그로 더불어 먹고 그는 나로 더불어 먹으리라”(계시록3:20). 내가 나의 주인 되어 사는 게 원죄와 운명에 묶여있는 증거입니다. 우리 각 사람을 사랑하시는 하나님이시오. 구세주이신 예수님을 마음의 문을 열고 구주로 영접하면 요한복음1:12절의 일이 벌어집니다. “영접하는 자 곧 그 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주셨으니”. 하나님의 판단 기준은 산 자와 죽은 자를 심판하시는 예수 그리스도이며, 결국 그리스도를 기준으로 하여 세상을 심판하신 후에 장차 나타나실 그리스도의 영광과 그의 나라에 참여할 자와 영원한 사망에 처할 자로 나뉘게 되는 것입니다. 이처럼 영원한 사망의 길에서 영원한 영광의 길로 들어서는 게 인생의 제 일 목적입니다. 

 

2. 구원받은 자에게는 영원한 상급을 받을 수 있는 사명이 주어집니다.

사도바울은 이 사명의 길을 거의 끝까지 달려왔었고 디모데후서에서 복음 전도의 바통을 디모데에게 넘기며 말씀을 주고 있습니다. 디모데가 평생을 두고 걸어가야 할 인생길을 제시하고 있는 것입니다. 그리고 그 인생길은 신자로서 반드시 가야 하는 길이기에 엄히 명한다는 말로서 경계하고 있는 것입니다. 바울이 디모데에게 명하는 것은 하나님 앞에서 신자가 걸어가야 할 유일한 길이기 때문에 바울로서는 엄히 명하지 않을 수가 없습니다. 즉 디모데가 바울이 말하는 삶의 길이 아닌 적당히 다른 길을 가는 것을 경계하는 말이기도 하는 것입니다. 바울이 남기는 마지막 말은 디모데후서4: 2절을 보면 “너는 말씀을 전파하라 때를 얻든지 못 얻든지 항상 힘쓰라 범사에 오래 참음과 가르침으로 경책하며 경계하며 권하라”고 합니다. 바울이 디모데에게 엄히 명하고 있는 것은 바른 말씀을 전파하라는 것입니다. 때를 얻든지 못 얻든지 항상 힘써 대비해야 할 일이 바른 복음의 말씀을 전파하는 것임을 엄히 명하고 있습니다. 바울이 말씀을 전파하라는 것은 단지 ‘예수 믿으라’라는 말을 해서 사람들을 교회로 데려오라는 식으로 말하지 않습니다. 바울이 말하는 말씀 전파는 오래 참음과 가르침으로 경책하며 경계하며 권하는 것으로 말하고 있습니다.

나 중심에 빠진 세상 사람들은 성경의 진리에서 멀어져 있고, 다만 자신을 즐겁게 해주고 자기 욕심을 옹호해주는 말에만 귀가 열려있습니다. 진리에서 돌이켜 생명이 없는 허탄한 이야기를 즐겨하고 좇는 것이 나 중심, 돈 중심에 빠진 현대인들의 실상입니다.

 

3. 바울은 여러 가지로 왜곡된 다른 복음을 엄히 경계하고 있습니다. 

갈라디아 1:8절을 보면 “그러나 우리나 혹 하늘로부터 온 천사라도 우리가 너희에게 전한 복음 외에 다른 복음을 전하면 저주를 받을지어다”라고 하였습니다. 에덴동산에서 거짓으로 속였던 마귀는 세상 끝날까지 여러 가지 다른 복음으로 속일 것입니다. 다른 복음은 곧 저주와 연결됩니다. 그 다른 복음이라는 것은 나 중심의 사람들에게 관심을 갖게 하는 말입니다. 나, 돈, 성공을 위하여 좋게 여겨지는 말을 한다면 그것은 분명 다른 교훈일 수밖에 없습니다.

성경이 계시하는 근본 흐름은 창조주 하나님과 하나님의 형상으로 피조된 사람과 원죄, 그리고 유일한 해답이신 새 언약 그리스도에 관한 기본 진리입니다. 성경이 말하는 복음의 핵심 내용을 정확히 가르치고 받을 때 성령께서 역사하십니다. 성령께서 감동을 주시며 역사하시면 예수님이 그리스도이심이 믿어지게 됩니다. 

하나님의 은혜로 예수그리스도를 구주로 모시고 구원받은 우리 각 사람에게 맡기신 시대와 지역 및 현장이 있습니다. 그곳에서 왕 같은 제사장이요 그리스도의 전권대사로 든든히 서서 승리하시기를 축복합니다.

2 Tim 4:2 Life's Purpose and Mission

 

At the end of 2 Timothy, his final epistle, the Apostle Paul leaves his last words—like a will—to his disciple Timothy, whom he regarded as a son. "In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction." Why does he leave such a stern command, like a final testament, to everyone who reads the Bible? It is because everyone is bound to a destiny sentenced to eternal punishment in hell, living their brief time on earth under a suspended sentence as their sole opportunity to receive a pardon and reinstatement. If one does not receive a pardon and reinstatement during the given opportunity of life, they will be subjected to the eternal punishment of hell just as sentenced. The only way to receive a pardon and reinstatement is to accept and welcome Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

 

1. The purpose of life is to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and obtain new life. 

Every person in Adam lives a physical life under a specific era, region, and parents determined for them, but they are living it as the only opportunity granted to receive salvation. Salvation is receiving a pardon and reinstatement from the sentenced eternal punishment of hell. Jesus Christ, the only way to be saved, took all our sins upon Himself and died on the cross. Jesus Christ, who rose again three days after being buried, is alive even now and is knocking on the door of each person's heart through evangelists. "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me" (Revelation 3:20). Living with myself as my own master is the evidence of being bound by original sin and destiny. If you open the door of your heart and accept Jesus—who is the Savior and God who loves each of us—as your Lord and Savior, the event of John 1:12 occurs. "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." God's standard of judgment is Jesus Christ, who judges the living and the dead. Ultimately, after judging the world based on Christ, people will be divided into those who will participate in the glory of Christ and His kingdom that will appear in the future, and those who will face eternal death. Thus, stepping out of the path of eternal death and into the path of eternal glory is the primary purpose of life.

 

2. A mission to receive eternal rewards is given to those who are saved. 

The Apostle Paul had run this path of mission almost to the end, and in 2 Timothy, he is passing the baton of evangelism to Timothy and giving him the Word. He is presenting the life path that Timothy must walk throughout his life. And because that life path is one a believer must inevitably take, he is warning him by saying, "I give you this charge." Paul cannot help but strictly command this because it is the only path a believer must walk before God. In other words, it is also a warning against Timothy taking a different path that is merely 'appropriate' instead of the path of life Paul is speaking of. Paul's final words are found in 2 Timothy 4:2: "Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction." What Paul is strictly commanding Timothy is to preach the correct Word. He is solemnly charging him that the work one must always strive to be prepared for, whether the time is favorable or not, is preaching the Word of the true Gospel. When Paul says to preach the Word, he is not simply saying to tell people "Believe in Jesus" and bring them to church. Paul speaks of preaching the Word as correcting, rebuking, and encouraging with great patience and teaching. 

People of the world, fallen into self-centeredness, are far from the truth of the Bible and only have their ears open to words that please them and support their own greed. Turning away from the truth and enjoying and chasing after myths that have no life is the reality of modern people who have fallen into self-centeredness and money-centeredness.

 

3. Paul strictly warns against various distorted "different gospels." 

Galatians 1:8 says, "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!" The devil, who deceived with lies in the Garden of Eden, will deceive with various different gospels until the end of the world. A different gospel is directly connected to a curse. That different gospel is words that interest self-centered people. If someone speaks words that seem good for "me," money, and success, that is inevitably a different teaching. 

The fundamental flow revealed by the Bible is the basic truth regarding God the Creator, humans created in God's image, original sin, and the New Covenant, Christ, who is the only answer. The Holy Spirit works when the core content of the Gospel spoken by the Bible is taught and received accurately. When the Holy Spirit moves and works, one comes to believe that Jesus is the Christ. By God's grace, there is an era, a region, and a field entrusted to each of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and received salvation. I bless you to stand firmly there as a royal priest and a plenipotentiary ambassador of Christ and be victorious.
