Leviticus 21
The LORD Who Makes Us Holy (Leviticus 21:1-15)
Verse 8: "You must regard them as holy, because they offer the food of your God. You must consider them holy,
because I the LORD, who makes you holy, am holy."
God, who created the universe for us, created all of us in the Lord’s image with Adam.
The image of Adam and Eve living with the Word given by God, the Creator, is well shown in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2.
That blessed state of dominion over all creation, in fellowship with the holy God, was perfectly embodied by Adam and Eve
in the holy and blessed Garden of Eden. The incident that broke this holy and blessed life along with the order of creation is
the Genesis 3 problem. It is disobeying God's Word and holding onto the devil's lies. However, God loved us and established
the Christ Covenant of Genesis 3:15 to restore holiness.
1. What is the Holiness that God Wants to Give?
1) Holiness means abandoning the devil's lies, repenting, and holding on to the covenant of Christ.
2) Holiness signifies being saved and liberated from slavery in the world of Egypt.
3) God established priests to lead Israel to a holy life.
4) The priests lead the Israelites from being carnal to being spiritual.
2. Why the Priests Must Maintain Holiness
1) First, because priests were appointed as elders and leaders of the Israelites (verse 4).
2) Although priests are human, they must maintain holiness even while living in the world.
3) Therefore, priests were required to have a higher level of holiness than ordinary people.
4) The exception provision in verse 1 and 1 Timothy 5:8 are interconnected.
3. The Priest's Family Must Maintain Extraordinary Holiness.
1) A priest could not marry an impure or divorced woman.
2) A priest could also become impure through the impure acts of a family member.
3) An impure priest's family would have a negative impact on those around them.
4) God demands holiness from the saints He has called to be royal priests.
Conclusion: I Am the LORD Who Makes You Holy.
1) There is a refrain that appears at the end of each paragraph (verses 8, 15, and 23).
2) We cannot keep God's ordinances and become holy through our own strength.
3) God always gives us His Word first.
4) The Lord, the eternal great high priest, is always with us.
In the past, the people who connected the people of Israel and God were the priests and high priests.
Today, He has entrusted us with the position of connecting God with those around us who are the targets of evangelism.
God has called us who believe as a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a people belonging
to him (1 Peter 2:9, NIV). In that position, we are in charge of the priest's role between God and the targets of evangelism
entrusted to us. Among us, spiritual leaders of the church require a higher level of holiness than ordinary saints.
Keep in mind that God still requires these orders and conditions of holiness from the church, God's covenant community,
and answers them as they hold onto and follow the covenant. I bless you to hold onto the three things of today,
which is an easy and simple path, and always be victorious with the Lord.
