Leviticus 22
Exalt the Name of the Lord in Every Aspect of Your Life.
(Leviticus 22:1-16)
Verse 2: “Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings the Israelites consecrate to me,
so they will not profane my holy name. I am the Lord."
Today's passage, Leviticus 22, is the concluding part of the 'holy life' that began in chapter 18.
Chapters 18-20 were regulations for the entire community of Israel, and chapters 21-22 are regulations for the priests.
God required a higher level of holy living from the priests than from the general public.
The regulations established by God reflect God's heart. Today's passage commanded the priests to live a holy life even
after the sacrifices were finished, with the regulations for eating the sacred offerings.
1. The Ordinance of Eating the Sacred Offerings as a Part of the Daily Life (Verses 1-9)
1) All of our lives, lived in the name of Christ, are called spiritual worship.
2) Everything given to us as believers belongs to God.
3) If we live as we used to, taking everything for granted, then everything is an impure life.
4) A life centered on self-centeredness, where we are our own masters, is impure.
2. What is the Basis for God Commanding This?
1) The phrase "I am the Lord" is repeated throughout today’s passage (1, 3, 8, 9, 16, 30, 31, 32, 33).
2) God loved us and established the covenant of Christ.
3) As children of God, we should offer our gifts to God the Father with gratitude.
4) Chapter 22, as a whole, says, "Do not profane my holy name."
3. How Should We Receive the Text Today?
1) God said, "I am the Lord, who makes you holy."
2) The reason and method for our becoming holy lies with God.
3) Today, we must live by holding on to the Word given to us in the Lord.
4) Having accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we can now always live in the Lord.
Conclusion: Be Holy Because I am Holy.
1) We too once did not know the Lord and ignored Him.
2) He chose us, saved us, and is still with us today.
3) He desires to recreate each of us in holiness and use us as evangelists.
4) God wants us to "make worship our daily life, and make our daily life into worship."
In chapter 22, it seems that various complicated regulations are recorded, but there is one central message.
It is the content of "Do not profane my holy name." For us who live with Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior,
living as our own masters again is what most profanes God's name.
Romans 12:1 says to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.
Since all our lives are worship offered to God, all our thoughts, words, and actions must be done in the name of the Lord.
We cannot be perfect with our own strength and effort. It is only possible with a life lived holding on to 3 todays in the Lord.
I bless you to entrust all your life to the purpose of the Lord operating the earth and to be victorious with the Lord.
