Numbers 3

The Tribe of Levi, God’s Household Troops (Numbers 3:1-13)

Verse 12: “I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman.

The Levites are mine.”

When God led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, He called them the Lord's army. The first census of the soldiers fit to go

to war for the conquest of Canaan is found in Numbers 1. Chapter 2 records the formation of the army and its marching order.

Chapter 3 records the census of the tribe of Levi, who was excluded from the army formation.

Today's text introduces the family of Aaron, the high priest and head of the tribe of Levi, and reveals that the tribe of Levi was

set apart as God's household troops.

1. The duties of the priests and Levites and their relationship (Verses 1-13)

1) Only Aaron's sons were designated as priests.

2) The rest of the tribe of Levi was appointed as God's household troops.

3) The Levites were given the authority to put violators to death.

4) In Christ, we are priests who can approach God directly.

2. The census of the tribe of Levi (Verses 14-39)

1) Levi had three sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

2) The clans of Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

3) Finally, the locations of the camps of Moses, Aaron, and the priests are introduced.

4) Thus, the Levites' role was as God's household troops.

3. The purpose for which God purchased us with the blood of Christ

1) God sent Jesus, who died in our place.

2) He made the Levites God's household troops to serve in the tabernacle.

3) God says that all firstborn sons belong to Him.

4) The names and deeds of Christ's soldiers are recorded in the Book of Life in heaven.

Conclusion: The tribe of Levi, in the army of the LORD, is God's household troops.

1) The tribe of Levi is God's household troops, representing the firstborn sons of Israel.

2) The life of the Levites, according to the New Testament, can be described as "the life of a steward."

3) 1 Peter 2:9.

4) We, called to be God's household troops, are destined for victory.

Today, we are becoming children of God and Christians is also God's sovereign choice. Therefore, we have no choice help

but be thankful to God. God refers to the Levites as "Mine." Among them, Nadab and Abihu, though ordained as priests,

died after offering incense with fire not commanded by God. Nadab and Abihu thought any fire was okay, but more important

than fire is obeying God's commands as they are. Most people value practicality and efficiency. However, as soldiers of Christ,

it's more important to follow God's laws based on His Word than to pursue practicality or efficiency based on our own standards. God takes responsibility for everything for us , soldiers of Christ. The foundation for soldiers of Christ is to hold on to the 3 todays and follow the Lord. I pray that you will always be victorious with the Lord.
