A Reformation Is Needed
In every era, the gospel has been distorted and corrupted, becoming idolized (religionized), leading to disaster and suffering. Through a remnant, reform movements have arisen to restore the essence of the gospel. Adam's blood sacrifice and garments of skin --> Formation of corrupt systems and the age of the Nephilim --> Noah's ark movement and the flood judgment --> Tower of Babel incident and confusion of languages --> Abraham and the altar, restoration of blood sacrifice --> 400 years of slavery in Egypt --> Restoration of blood sacrifice and the Exodus --> Israel's life centered on the Tabernacle and Temple --> Division of the kingdom after Solomon and national ruin due to idolatry, the age of captivity --> Reconstruction of the Zerubbabel Temple and the Roman colonial period --> First coming of Jesus Christ and the early church --> Roman Catholicism and the Dark Ages --> Martin Luther's Reformation movement (1517) --> Today, 510 years after the Reformation---
The era we live in is also one where the gospel has become muddied, strongly demanding a reformation. Most believers don't even truly understand "why one *must* believe only in Jesus Christ?" Even within the church, it seems to have become an era of "mixed gospel" or "distorted gospel," where other incidental things are blended in, appearing more important than the gospel of Jesus Christ alone. As a result, outside the church, heresies are rampant, threatening the church perhaps more than in any other era.
Those who hear the Lord's voice calling to reform the "religionized church" with the "only gospel" must first make three resolutions:
1. Resolve to Live Only for the Gospel and Evangelism.
If it is true that the Creator God, as He promised, was incarnated, ended all of our life's problems through His crucifixion and resurrection, and is now our Savior and is always with us, then it is only natural to resolve to live solely for Christ and evangelism. This is because all problems have ended in Christ, and all our needs are already prepared in the Lord. Indeed, truly enjoying and proclaiming the pure gospel, and living a life worthy of this gospel, must be the fundamental path for a saint on their way to heaven. However, nowadays, most believers, far from genuinely enjoying the gospel, merely treat it as superficial knowledge, instead clinging to the world and money as if they were life itself, falling into the love of money. Because this is a world where the devil, the prince of this world, and evil spirits operate, the inevitable result will be serious spiritual problems.
2. Avoid Complex Denominational Disputes, But Be Resolute Against False Gospels.
God immediately established a new covenant with Adam and all of us, who had committed original sin and fallen into destruction, promising salvation through Christ. However, the forces of darkness have used various methods to deceive us, preventing us from holding onto the new covenant *alone*. Foolish arguments to avoid are those self-centered disputes about issues not mentioned in the Bible. The heresies mentioned in the Bible refer to groups that, while Jesus, the sole Lord of salvation, is still alive, elevate human beings in a self-centered way and impersonate Christ or God. Those used by Satan, the father of lies, should be avoided after one or two warnings, because they will not change through argument.
Jesus Christ is the one who, as God who established the covenant of Christ, personally took on flesh and came as the only begotten Son. Through His earthly life, Christ became the lifelong role model for believers who have believed and received salvation; He completed the work of salvation through His cross and resurrection, and He is always with each person who believes and accepts Him as Lord and Savior, guiding them through His Word.
3. Recognize We Are One Body in Christ the Head and Love One Another.
A basic characteristic of the early church was the life described in Acts 2:42: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” In this way, the gospel workers who were with the apostles and all the saints helped one another, shared everything they had, met daily in the temple with one accord, broke bread in their homes, ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praised God, and enjoyed the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Furthermore, the churches founded by Paul served itinerant missionaries and provided them with financial support.
In this era demanding reformation, what kind of workers is God looking for?
Titus, left on the island of Crete, which was also a stronghold of pirates, faithfully and silently carried out his assigned church ministry even in a rough and deceitful culture. Currently, many places around the world are groaning, bound even more deeply in darkness. It seems to be a time when the Lord needs willing servants who raise their hands and say, "Here I am. Send me!" to the places where He is needed.
Titus 3 states that after Titus remained in the church on the island of Crete to organize the tasks entrusted to him, Paul instructed him to entrust the Cretan church to someone else and hurry to Nicopolis in northwestern Macedonia (verse 12). The reason Paul called Titus was because he needed him for his own remaining ministry in his old age. It would not be easy to be called from a stable senior pastor position to serve as a pioneering minister in a new territory and humbly obey. Our old self must die, and we must become a person of Christ to be able to humbly obey. Paul and Barnabas gave up their pastoral roles (senior and assistant pastor positions) and were sent out as missionaries.
