나를 십자가에 심어야만 영생으로 거듭날 수 있습니다
코로나펜데믹의 영향이 아직 가시지 않은 채 전 세계 교회가 더더욱 침체기에 빠져들고 있습니다. 미자립 교회는 물론 교회당 건축을 한 교회들마저 문 닫을 위기를 맞고 있습니다. 이때 우리는 주께서 왜 이런 어려움을 허용하셨는지 여쭤봐야 합니다. 대부분의 교인들이 나 중심, 돈 중심, 성공중심의 삶이 원죄의 결과요 하나님과 원수 된 삶임을 모르고 있습니다. 진정한 그리스도인의 삶의 목표와 길을 외면하고 헛된 세상 부귀 안일함에 마음을 뺏기고 있지는 않은지 점검해봐야 합니다. 사탄은 기독교를 종교화시키려 하고 하나님은 우리에게 오직 그리스도와 하나가 되는 복음만 붙들기를 원하십니다. 기독교 복음을 종교화시키는 것이 사탄의 끈질긴 전략입니다. 종교개혁은 그리스도와 함께 죽고 그리스도와 함께 사는 삶으로 들어가는 것입니다.
1. 하나님께서 우리에게 주시는 복음의 핵심을 붙들어야 합니다.
성경의 주제이자, 핵심은 그리스도와 함께 죽으면 그리스도와 함께 부활의 생명, 영생의 생명으로 거듭나는 약속입니다. 구원받을 수 있는 첫 단계는 지금까지 내 맘대로 주인 노릇을 하며 살았던 자신이 그리스도의 십자가 밑에 나아가 나를 위해 돌아가신 그리스도와 연합하여 함께 죽는 것입니다. 다음 단계는 부활하신 예수그리스도를 구주로 영접하여 모시는 것입니다. 그 이후의 삶은 주님께 집중하며 주님의 뜻대로 주의 성령의 인도받는 하나님 수준의 삶을 사는 것입니다.
주 예수님과 함께 사는 삶이 처음에는 잘 안되지만, 이인삼각 경기처럼 주님과 보조를 잘 맞추며 연습하면 익숙해집니다. 이를 위해서는 인내가 필요한데, 인내한다는 것은 내 맘대로 살았던 옛 삶의 모든 것을 포기하고, 주님께 나를 맞추는 것을 의미합니다. 깁스를 풀고 나면 굽혀진 팔이 예전처럼 잘 펴지지 않지요. 그처럼 옛 삶을 버리고 새로운 삶을 살고자 함은 석고처럼 굳어져 잘 바뀌지 않는 옛 각인 뿌리 체질로 인하여 고난의 삶이라 할 수도 있겠지요. 그러나 주님의 말씀 따라 인도받는 새 생활의 열매는 주님께 영광이요 우리에게는 기쁨의 열매로 맺어질 것입니다.
2. 그리스도와 하나가 되는 것이 종교개혁입니다.
그리스도께서 나를 온전히 주관하시도록 맡겨드리는 삶을 살며 부활하신 주님과 하나가 되는 삶을 사는 것이 복음 진리의 핵심입니다. 그런데 오늘날 대부분 교인들은 나와 돈과 성공을 위하여 그리스도를 믿는 것이지, 그리스도의 십자가와 부활에 연합해야 함은 별 관심이 없습니다. 이처럼 종교에 빠진 기독교인의 삶은 세상 사람들의 삶과 큰 차이가 없게 되었습니다. 대부분 교인들이 세상에서의 평안과 행복을 목적으로 살지 그리스도의 십자가와 부활의 핵심 진리에 관해 별 관심이 없습니다. 이는 영적으로 심각한 문제입니다.
구원의 약속인 복음의 핵심은 그리스도의 대속 죽으심과 그의 부활에 우리가 연합하는 것입니다. 이를 받아들인 기독교인은 이제 진노의 심판에서 벗어나 구원받은 새 생명, 새 생활을 누리며 그리스도와 하나가 되어 부활의 영광에 이르는 것을 목표로 남은 육신의 삶을 살아야 합니다.
3. 그리스도인의 정체성은 주 예수님과 하나가 된 사람입니다.
그리스도인의 정체성을 잃고 사는 것은 곧 그리스도와 아무런 상관이 없고 오직 세상에 속한 자로 사는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 종교화된 교회가 속히 오직 복음 붙들고 종교 개혁하기를 원하십니다. 예수그리스도를 구주로 연접한 성도는 하나님의 성전이 되었습니다.
세상의 그 어떤 상황도 하나님과 함께 사는 성도들의 앞길을 막을 수 없습니다. 로마서 8:37절에도 “그러나 이 모든 일에 우리를 사랑하시는 이로 말미암아 우리가 넉넉히 이기느니라”고 분명히 약속하셨습니다. 그래서 바울은 로마 감옥에 투옥되어 사형 집행을 앞두고 있었으나 복음은 온 시위대 안에 퍼지게 되었습니다. 우리 역시 코로나와 어려운 여건 속에 갇혀 있으나 그 가운데 더욱 강하게 되고 더욱 확신에 이르게 되고 복음 전도사역은 더더욱 넓고 깊게 펼쳐질 것입니다.
결론: 고난은 뒤따를 놀라운 영광의 문입니다.
주님은 디모데후서2:11절 말씀을 통해 ‘주와 함께 죽으면 함께 살 것이요, 고난 중에 인내하면 또한 함께 왕 노릇할 것’임을 분명히 약속하셨습니다. 사실상 주님께서 우리에게 고난을 말씀하시고 고난의 삶으로 이끄시는 것은 그의 놀라운 영광에 참여하게 하기 위함입니다. 주께서 우리 각 사람에게 주시기 원하는 것은 생명의 면류관, 의의 면류관, 영광의 면류관입니다. 현재는 고난으로 보일 수 있지만, 장차 나타날 영광은 이에 비교할 수 없습니다(로마서 8:18). 주님은 우리에게 허용하신 현재의 작은 고난을 통해서 말할 수 없는 영원한 영광을 주와 함께 얻을 수 있게 하실 것입니다.
성경과 교회사에 기록된 믿음의 선진들은 이 약속에 대한 소망 때문에 고난의 삶을 선택하였고 별과 같이 영원토록 빛나는 영광에 들어가 있습니다. 우리 인간은 이 세상에서 잠시 육신의 삶을 사는 동안 영원한 지옥 형벌에 대한 사면 복권 받을 기회를 부여받았습니다. 기회를 놓쳐버리고 가는 저 세상은 선고받은 대로 영원한 지옥입니다. 그러나 주 예수그리스도와 연합하여 사면 복권 받고 그리스도의 증인으로 살다 가는 성도들의 저 세상은 에덴동산과 비교할 수 없는 영원한 낙원입니다.

Only by Being Planted in the Cross I Can Be Born Again Into Eternal Life.
With the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic still lingering, churches worldwide are sinking deeper into a recession. Not only struggling churches, but even those that constructed church buildings are facing the risk of closing down. At this time, we must ask why the Lord allowed such difficulties. Most church members do not realize that a self-centered, money-centered, success-centered life is the result of original sin and a life hostile to God. We must examine whether we are turning away from the true goals and path of a Christian life, and instead, letting our hearts be captivated by vain worldly wealth and comfort. Satan seeks to turn Christianity into a religion, while God desires us to hold fast only to the gospel of being one with Christ. Turning the Christian gospel into a religion is Satan's persistent strategy. The Reformation is about entering a life of dying with Christ and living with Christ.
1. We must grasp the core of the gospel God gives us.
The theme and core of the Bible is the promise that if we die with Christ, we are born again with Him into resurrection life, eternal life. The first step to receiving salvation is for oneself, who has lived as master of one's own will until now, to go under the cross of Christ and unite with the Christ who died for us, thus dying with Him. The next step is to receive the resurrected Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The life thereafter is to focus on the Lord, live according to His will, guided by the Lord's Spirit, living up to God's standard.
Living with the Lord Jesus is difficult at first, but like a three-legged race, if we practice coordinating well with the Lord, it becomes familiar. This requires patience, and patience means abandoning all aspects of the old life lived according to one's own will, and conforming oneself to the Lord. After a cast is removed, a bent arm doesn't straighten as easily as before. Likewise, seeking to abandon the old life and live a new one can be called a life of hardship due to the old imprinted, deeply rooted nature that is hardened like plaster and difficult to change. However, the fruit of a new life guided by the Lord's Word will bring glory to the Lord and be a fruit of joy for us.
2. Becoming one with Christ is the Reformation.
Living a life where we surrender ourselves completely for Christ to govern us, and becoming one with the resurrected Lord, is the core of gospel truth. However, most church members today believe in Christ for themselves, money, and success, and have little interest in being united with Christ's cross and resurrection. Thus, the lives of Christians caught in religion have become little different from the lives of worldly people. Most church members live for peace and happiness in this world, having little interest in the core truths of Christ's cross and resurrection. This is a serious spiritual problem.
The core of the gospel, the promise of salvation, is our union with Christ's atoning death and His resurrection. Christians who accept this must now live the remainder of their physical lives freed from the judgment of wrath, enjoying new, saved life and a new way of living, becoming one with Christ, and aiming for the glory of the resurrection.
3. A Christian's identity is one who has become one with the Lord Jesus.
Living without a Christian identity means having no relation to Christ and living solely as one belonging to the world. God desires that the religionized church quickly grasp only the gospel and undergo a reformation. Saints who have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior have become the temple of God.
No worldly situation can block the path of saints who live with God. Romans 8:37 clearly promises, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” So Paul, though imprisoned in a Roman jail and facing execution, saw the gospel spread throughout the whole palace guard. We too, though confined by COVID-19 and difficult circumstances, will become stronger and more confident amidst them, and the work of gospel evangelism will spread even wider and deeper.
Conclusion: Suffering is the door to astonishing glory that will follow.
Through the Word in 2 Timothy 2:11, the Lord clearly promised, “If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him.” In fact, when the Lord speaks to us of suffering and leads us into a life of hardship, it is to allow us to participate in His astonishing glory. What the Lord desires to give each of us are the crown of life, the crown of righteousness, and the crown of glory. Though it may appear as suffering now, the glory to be revealed is not comparable to it (Romans 8:18). Through the small sufferings currently allowed to us, the Lord will enable us to obtain unspeakable eternal glory with Him.
The pioneers of faith recorded in the Bible and church history chose a life of suffering because of the hope in this promise, and they have entered into glory that shines forever like the stars. While living a temporary physical life in this world, we humans have been granted the opportunity to receive a pardon and restoration from eternal hellfire. That other world, where opportunities are missed, is eternal hell as condemned. However, for saints who unite with the Lord Jesus Christ, receive pardon and restoration, and live as witnesses of Christ, that other world is an eternal paradise, incomparable to the Garden of Eden.
