Numbers 16

Korah's Rebellion and Moses' Prayer (Numbers 16:1-11)

Numbers 16:4 “When Moses heard this, he fell facedown.”

It is difficult for even believers to recover if their hearts are taken over by unbelief. When the Israelite army formed its ranks and began

its march toward the land of Canaan, the complaints and grumbling that started from the lagging groups spread throughout the entire camp

and eventually transferred even to Miriam and Aaron. Upon reaching Kadesh Barnea, even with the Promised Land before their eyes,

acts of unbelief continued, suggesting they send spies. Although they confirmed it was indeed a land flowing with milk and honey,

they cried out in unbelief, saying, 'They are giants, and we seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes,' leading the entire army and

people to fall into unbelief, crying out and rebelling. Although they escaped annihilation through Moses' prayer,

they had to return to the wilderness for 40 years of retraining. After returning to the wilderness, a rebellion broke out.

1. The Organized Rebellion of Korah's Group

1) Korah's group, descendants of Levi, took the lead in opposing Moses and Aaron.

2) This was a rebellion to satisfy their own desires, unable to escape their self-centeredness.

3) One characteristic of people under original sin is to constantly form factions.

4) However, we live as the church, the body of the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. Moses and Aaron's Reaction to the Rebellious Group (Verses 4-19)

1) Korah, Moses' cousin, coveted the position of priest.

2) Moses' first reaction was to fall facedown before God (v. 4).

3) The reason for bringing censers is found in Leviticus 10:1-2.

4) In verses 12-14, Dathan and Abiram did not come before the Tent of Meeting.

3. The Israelites Ignored God's Warning.

1) Korah's group was buried alive, and the 250 participants were consumed by fire.

2) The people grumbled that Moses and Aaron had killed them, and God was enraged.

3) Moses quickly commanded Aaron to take a censer, go to the people, and make atonement (v. 46).

4) When Aaron 'stood between the living and the dead' in the plague (v. 48).

Conclusion: We Must Acknowledge God's Absolute Sovereignty.

1) Even the wicked Pharaoh of Egypt was established and governed by God.

2) We must be careful lest our words and actions show 'contempt for God.'

3) May you experience the gentleness of Moses, a man of God, in the Lord.

4) What was the reason the first generation of the Exodus was not allowed to enter Canaan?

Even when Miriam and Aaron slandered him, Moses did not react immediately but waited for God's answer. In today's passage too,

when a large crowd rebelled and approached him, his first action was to fall facedown in prayer. Moses listened to the words of the crowds

who came to him, and then fell facedown in prayer to God. Moses demonstrates the most righteous conduct a person who believes in God

should exhibit when facing any situation. What do we each do first when problems approach us?

First, we try to solve them by thinking if we can resolve them with our own thoughts and strength.

And if it's impossible with our own strength, we seek help from those around us.

Only when all methods have been exhausted and the problem remains unresolved do we finally come to God and begin to fall facedown.

However, when problems came to Moses, he first fell facedown before God.

This is the mark of a mature Christian. I bless you to become gentle and humble in spirit like Moses.
