THE SECOND MISTAKE OF ABRAHAM

( Gen.20:1-8 )

 

1. Abraham who was weak in past.

  1) Gen.12:1-6

  2) Gen.12:10-11  v. 10 Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.

     v. 11As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, "I know what a beautiful woman you are.

  3) Gen.12:12-20  v. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'This is his wife.' Then they will kill me but will let you live.

     v.13 Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you."

 

2. Abraham who realized the power of God.

  1) Gen.13:14 The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.

  2) Gen.13:18, 14:14 So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.

  3) Gen.14:21-24, 15:1-6

  4) Gen.18:1-8, 9-15

  5) Gen.18:22-23

 

3. Second mistake of Abraham- Weakness of man

* Weakness of Abraham.

  1) Fear of death

  2) Fear to environment

  3) Mistake by humanism

 

4. God’s protection.

  1) Gen.20:3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him, "You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken;

     she is a married woman."

  2) Gen.20:6 Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me.

     That is why I did not let you touch her.

  3) Gen. 20:16-18

     v. 16 To Sarah he said, "I am giving your brother a thousand shekels of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you;

        you are completely vindicated."

    v. 17 Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his slave girls so they could have children again,

    v. 18 for the LORD had closed up every womb in Abimelech's household because of Abraham's wife Sarah.

 

5. Abraham’s center of heart.

  1) The reason to say that his wife is his sister.

  2) Genealogy in Genesis

  3) Seed, Life

    (1) System of family

    (2) Blessing of Tamar

 

6. Revelation of God

  1) People who do not have life will be destroyed.

  2) People who do not have covenant will be destroyed.

  3) Faith without covenant is meaningless faith. (Cain)
