Gospel Healing Column
God Desires Loving Fellowship with Us
If I were to name the insects I dislike the most in the Philippines, they would probably be mosquitoes, flies, and fire ants. Many insecticides are sold to eradicate them. While catching flies and mosquitoes, I asked God the Creator, "Why did you make these and make it so hard for us?" God, who gives answers to my heart, spoke of Genesis 3:17: "To Adam he said, 'Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, “You must not eat of it,” cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.'" After Adam and all people committed the one forbidden fruit of God and plotted rebellion, a curse came upon all things, and a food chain was created even among animals. Did you know that lions also ate grass in the beginning? I know that scientists who do not know the fundamentals at all will sneer and ridicule me when I say this, but I hope you will keep the Word of the Creator in mind. The moment I violated the covenant of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in an attempt to become like God, the fundamental order of creation was broken, and eternal punishment of hell was pronounced.
1. God created all things for loving fellowship with His children.
Apostle John is one of those who followed Jesus Christ, who came to this earth in the flesh as He had promised to save mankind who had fallen into sin and curse, most closely for three and a half years. The Word of 1 John 1:1, which is the letter of Apostle John, or the Word of John 1:1 begins with the phrase "In the beginning." Apostle John is revealing the relationship between God the Creator and us from the root. It was in a very good state up to the Garden of Eden. However, Adam, along with everyone in him, was deceived by the devil and rebelled against God, breaking the order of creation and bringing a curse. Nevertheless, God established the covenant of Christ and began the work of salvation, which is the history of re-creation.
In the beginning, when God created man, He made him in His own image. Apostle John is telling us the reason in the Word of 1 John 1:3. God is love. God made man in His own image to have loving fellowship with man. God, who is love, is not someone who created us to use us for something, but someone who gives us everything we need and shares love and rejoices. 1 John 1:4 also says, "We write this to you to make your joy complete." He is saying that the purpose of writing and sending this letter as a testimony to Christ who came to save us is so that your joy—the joy of you who read, believe, and are saved—may be made full.
2. True joy comes when we enter into loving fellowship with God through Christ
Loving fellowship between God and us brings joy to God, and it fills us with complete joy. How is your life today? Are you perhaps having a hard, tiring, and frustrating time? If so, what is the reason? The reason why our lives are not filled with joy is because we are not entering into a good relationship with the living God and sharing love with Him. If we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, meet God, and are with Him, all problems will be changed into joy. Apostle John said in 1 John 1:1 that Jesus is the Word of life who was from the beginning. Up to the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2, everything was very good in God's eyes. However, in Genesis 3, due to Adam's sin of rebellion, after having been deceived by the devil, eternal punishment of hell was pronounced on all people; and all things fell into curse and pain together. But 1 John 1:2 says, "The life appeared." Eternal life does not simply mean that our destiny of going to hell has been moved to heaven. Eternal life means the joy and happiness that a person enjoys while fellowshipping with God.
3. Jesus who came as God's love
Disconnection with God the Creator can be called death and hell, and restoring the relationship with God can be called eternal life. Jesus Himself became a propitiation to atone for all our sins and rose from the dead in order to restore the relationship with God that had been severed due to the rebellion of Adam and all people. Jesus is the one who gives us eternal life. Jesus said in John 10:10, "... I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." What Jesus wants to give us is the restoration of our relationship with God and loving fellowship. The relationship and fellowship with God, which was disrupted by original sin, is not something that is fully and finally restored in a single moment at the point of salvation. Christ died on the cross, rose again, and is with us through the Holy Spirit so that we can experience loving fellowship with God in every moment of everyday, grow in our faith each day, and be filled with overflowing joy. Jesus Himself spoke about this life in John 17:3: "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." Here, 'knowing' is not the level of knowing intellectually, but in the original language, it is 'epignosis,' that is, becoming one body.
The fact that I live as the master of myself is evidence of original sin. If you receive the gospel by the grace of God, repent, and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have become one body with Christ, who is God. Fellowship among saints who have become brothers and sisters in the Lord becomes fellowship among members of one body. The only reason why this does not work well is because I am still living as the master of myself. However, when we believers are in deep communion with the Lord, we can radiate the light and love of the Lord who dwells within us to those we encounter. May you all meet the Lord who loved us to the point of sacrificing His own life for us, and may you experience a life where your loving fellowship with Him grows deeper.
