Exodus 30
Covenant Ceremony and Covenant Meal(Exodus 24:1-11 )
After coming down from Mount Sinai, Moses returned to the Israelites and handed them all the laws that God had given him.
Exodus 20:22 to 23:33 are all words spoken by God to Moses on Mount Sinai. Therefore, because Moses alone heard this law,
he had to go down Mount Sinai and convey to the people what God had commanded him.
The three major themes of the Book of Exodus are the Exodus, God's Law, and the Tabernacle.
These three themes are connected in Chapter 24.
1. Ceremony of entering into a covenant between God and Israel
1) All the people who heard the law of God responded with Amen.
2) Moses later built an altar at the foot of Mount Sinai where the people were.
3) Moses offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to God in faith in the covenant of Christ.
4) He took the blood and sprinkled half of it on the altar and the other half on the Israelites.
2. Leaders invited to the Covenant meal after the blood sprinkling ceremony
1) “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
2) It is a strict contract that will result in death if the blood covenant is violated.
3) After the covenant ceremony, God called the leaders half way up Mount Sinai.
4) Even the lower part of God’s glorious throne was a glorious sight.
3. The grace of eating and drinking before God
1) Israel’s leaders participated in the Covenant meal before God.
2) At the time, after a covenant ceremony, the parties to the covenant ate together.
3) Through this covenant meal, God became a covenant unity with Israel.
4) The Last Supper, the Holy Communion, and the Heavenly Wedding Feast.
Conclusion: We are the people of the covenant completed by the precious blood of the Lord
1) The covenant of Christ has been made once and for all for us.
2) During the Holy Communion, we eat a common meal with the Lord.
3) We are beneficiaries of the covenant completed through the precious blood of the Lord.
4) Jesus completed the covenant of Christ with His blood.
The greatest experience of being God's presence in the Old Testament that Moses, Aaron, Aaron's two sons,
and the 70 elders of Israel enjoyed in today’s passage has become a privilege of grace that all Christians experience every day.
We have entered this place of amazing grace only through the blood of Jesus Christ.
This short glorious time the leaders of Israel experienced eating and drinking with God, when we can hope that
this would be an eternal blessing we will enjoy in Christ, what an indescribably blessed hope it is!
A way into God's presence will be opened to us, and within the veil we will have eternal fellowship with God.
The path of living as my own master or lord is the path to eternal hell.
Come into the blessing of unity by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, who has atoned for all our sins.
Only by the merits of the Lord’s precious blood can any of us boldly approach the throne of grace.
I bless you in the name of the Lord that you may enjoy this privilege every day.
