Leviticus 25.
The Blessing of the Jubilee That Christ Will Fulfill
(Leviticus 25:1-21)
Verse 10: "Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan."
God set apart the people of Israel as a holy people and also distinguished one day of the week from other days.
By commanding them to work hard for six days and rest on the seventh day, He declared one day of the week as a holy day.
The Sabbath is the day set apart holy by the holy God for the holy people. Today's passage is about the Sabbatical year,
in which the holy God set apart one year out of seven as a holy year, and the Jubilee, which was set apart holy out of 50 years.
1. Regulations Regarding the Sabbatical Year (Verses 1-5)
1) The seventh year is a Sabbath year, and it is commanded that no productive activity be undertaken.
2) Why God gave the Sabbath year.
3) What happens when we obey God's Word.
4) If you intend to observe the Sabbath year, there are certain questions that inevitably arise.
2. Regulations Regarding the Jubilee (10-12)
1) After seven Sabbath years, observe the fiftieth year as the Year of Jubilee.
2) During the Year of Jubilee, you are to eat the produce of the sixth year for four years.
3) The Sabbath, the Sabbath year, and the Year of Jubilee are possible because of God's provision.
4) God wanted the Israelites to rest on the seventh day.
3. Christ is the One Who Fulfilled the Sabbatical Year and the Jubilee.
1) Christ gave us freedom from all bondage and restraint.
2) Jesus, who began his public ministry, proclaimed the Jubilee in his hometown of Nazareth (Luke 4:18-21).
3) Let us go to the place of rest and peace led by the Lord and stand as witnesses.
4) Why did God command the Israelites of the Old Testament to observe the Sabbath year and the Jubilee?
Conclusion: The Jubilee is Proclaimed After the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement.
1) The Jubilee is proclaimed on the Day of Atonement, following the Feast of Trumpets, during the Seven Feasts, with trumpets blown.
2) There is no record in the Bible of the Jubilee actually being observed.
3) Ownership of the land belongs to God, and we are merely stewards temporarily entrusted with it.
4) The true Sabbath year and the blessings of the Jubilee will come after the Lord's Second Coming.
At the heart of the Sabbatical year regulations are several important meanings. That is, 'the owner of the land is God and
the people are tenant farmers, so they can only live if God, the owner, feeds them, not by their own strength.'
It shows that as a people who are grateful to God and worship Him, they also have a responsibility to protect the land well.
The heart of the Jubilee regulations is also consideration for neighbors. Every seven years or at least every 50 years,
it is a life of remembering and reflecting on a life of sharing and giving. The mission of the church is to witness the gospel,
but the practice of loving neighbors must also be carried out in parallel. The 'one who redeems the property'
in the Sabbatical year or Jubilee regulations is called 'Goel' in Hebrew, and Jesus came as Goel, that is, the Redeemer,
and bestowed grace on us to be redeemed from all slavery. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). The Jubilee that Jesus fulfills began with preaching the gospel to the poor.
I pray that you will hold on to and enjoy the three things of today and enjoy and proclaim the blessing of the Jubilee.
