Exodus 1
The Beginning of the Journey to Exodus (Exodus 1:1-22)
In verses 1-5 of the text, it lists Jacob’s twelve sons in order, and it says that the number of men who entered Egypt at the time of Joseph was seventy. Verse 6 shows that time passed and all the people at that time, including Joseph, died. However, Jacob’s descendants were blessed as God had promised in a few generations and became a great nation. The Bible says of this fact in verse 7, “They were fruitful and increased greatly and multiplied exceedingly; they filled the earth.”
And when the Exodus came, only 600,000 adult men, excluding women and children, escaped Egypt, so the entire population of Israel at that time must have been at least two million. God fulfilled His promise to Abraham, "Look toward the sky and count the stars... so shall your descendants be."
1. The emergence of a new dynasty that did not know Joseph.
1) Not knowing Joseph means that the dynasty itself had changed.
2) Israel presented two major concerns to the new king of Egypt.
3) They enslaved the Israelites and forced them to do heavy labor.
4) The Egyptians’ abuse became more and more severe and merciless.
2. The Egyptian king's policy of annihilating Israel
1) The Egyptian king orders that when an Israelite woman gives birth, all male babies be killed.
2) However, the midwives decide not to follow the king's order.
3) The more severe the Egyptians' abuse, the greater the loving hand of God becomes.
4) God moves the earth to save His chosen people.
3. The purpose of the devil, the ruler of the world, is to destroy the church.
1) The people of Israel were driven into the greatest crisis, the policy of national annihilation.
2) To them, who are self-centered, nothing is precious except their own life and safety.
3) Why did God allow such extreme suffering?
4) The key verse of Exodus is Exodus 3:18, the blood of Christ on the cross.
Conclusion: Exodus is a journey toward salvation.
1) The purpose of God's running the earth is the salvation of souls (John 3:16).
2) The covenant of Christ was proclaimed for 120 years through Noah's ark.
3) In Genesis 12:1-3, Jehovah called Abram and established him as the source of blessing.
4) Exodus is the only way to firmly hold on to the covenant of the blood sacrifice.
Exodus is the second book of the Pentateuch, and contains the most important Exodus event in the history of Israel. Israel's journey to Canaan concisely shows the journey of faith experienced by the people of God's kingdom. Exodus, consisting of a total of 40 chapters, is largely divided into two parts. First, chapters 1-19 deal with the Exodus event, in which the Israelites who were slaves in Egypt were freed from slavery and became free people. Second, chapters 20-40 contain the ethical code, or law, that the free Israel made a covenant with God on Mount Sinai and became His people. The key verse of Exodus is the sacrificial offering in Exodus 3:18. Only the blood of Christ's cross is the only way to defeat Satan and enter the path of salvation. If a human being who has turned away from God and fallen into destruction repents of being my own master and accepts Jesus Christ as my Savior, I will be forgiven and become a child of God. I pray that you will be filled with the Holy Spirit by calling only the Lord Jesus Christ and become a witness of the Lord to the ends of the earth.
