Exodus 11.
Do Not Be Deceived by the Compromises of the King of the World.(Exodus 8:25-32)
From chapter 8 of today's text, a full-scale disaster falls on Egypt.
And all these disasters were a response to God's word that Moses would be made like a god to Pharaoh, and were a judgment
on all the gods that Egypt worshiped. The first plague, the Plague of Blood, was a judgment on the god Khnum,
whom the Egyptians believed at the time to ‘preside over the Nile River.’ The reason Pharaoh was at the riverside was to offer
a sacrifice to the god Khnum, who gave Egypt all its abundance (7:15). By judging this ‘god Khnum’,
God showed that the source of life and abundance lies in God.
1. The second plague of frogs (vv. 2-7)
1) ‘Frog’ was also one of the ‘god’ worshiped by the Egyptians.
2) God cursed the Egyptians through the gods they served.
3) As the situation became more serious, Pharaoh asked Moses and Aaron for help. (v.8)
4) It is difficult for someone caught up in the world to change.
2. The third ‘gnats’ plague was carried out without warning.(vv.16-18)
1) The reason may have been Pharaoh’s false promise.
2) Many scholars view this ‘lice’ as a ‘gnats’, a type of mosquito.
3) Gnats are a type of mosquito so small that they are barely visible to the eye, but they are highly toxic.
4) Egyptian magicians also tried to make gnats appear from the ground, but failed.
3. The Fourth Plague of flies (vv.21-24)
1) When Pharaoh still did not understand, he sent Moses to the riverside temple.
2) God separated the land of Goshen and brought disaster only on Egypt.
3) The Egyptians believed that the cow dung beetle was the ‘god of healing.’
4) The god Khepri was worshiped as a god who prevented the reproduction of flies through cow dung beetles.
Conclusion: Pharaoh's plan to not let Israel go until the end
1) In verse 20, the devil, the ruler of the world, does not change.
2) Pharaoh’s first compromise is Satan’s clever trick.
3) Pharaoh’s intention is to continue to enslave the Israelites.
4) In response to Moses’ firm refusal, Pharaoh proposes a second compromise, moderation.
Pharaoh's compromise is a trick of the devil. The meaning of worship in Egypt is that it is okay to go to church as much as
you want, but it is a temptation not to leave your center and the values of the world. This temptation is such a sweet temptation. I am my own master and live for worldly wealth and glory, and all I have to do is worship at the chapel for one day on Sundays. We must not give in to this temptation of Pharaoh. Moses won this by holding on only to Christ, the Word of God.
In fact, it is dangerous to believe in Jesus in moderation. To know the truth, Jesus Christ is to accept and follow only Jesus Christ as your Savior. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
I pray in the name of the Lord that you will always hold on to and follow the Lord Jesus Christ and be victorious.
