A Life Preparing for the Day of Return

Just as a farmer works hard to harvest the precious crops from the land and stores them in the storehouse, each of us must achieve three things in our lives. First, we must escape from destiny and gain eternal life. Second, we must grow after gaining new life and being born again. Third, we must help others gain new life and grow, and receive eternal rewards. However, if a person cannot escape from the destiny of being centered on himself, he will inevitably be tied down and dragged by money and worldly success. So the Bible warns about those who are caught up in the wrong view of money and cannot escape their destiny. “Everyone came empty-handed, lived a short while, and returned empty-handed. The time to return is approaching, so what are you doing now?”

1. Listen, you who are tied to money, what are you doing now?

The way to escape from fate is easy and simple. We must unite with Jesus Christ—who was crucified and died in our place for our sins of usurping God’s possessions and acting as our own masters, and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, who was resurrected after three days and is still alive and knocking on the door of each person’s heart—and live a new life. The economic principles of the kingdom of God are applied to those who have received a new life and become children of God. When we reach our heavenly hometown, He will give us everything freely just like in the Garden of Eden; but before He returns, He promised that if we remain in the Lord in this world where we are planted, He will provide us with everything we need to help our neighbors in need. That promise is the promise to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.”

However, He strongly warned us against disbelieving this and accumulating wealth for food, clothing, and shelter, just like when we used to live in a self-centered state. Anything that is stored up for a long time will change, and when it changes, it becomes a terrible poison. A life that strives to store up treasures in heaven is one that receives what is given with one hand and serves the church by sharing with neighbors in need with the other hand.

2. Believers must walk patiently on the journey of the covenant.

The saints who have escaped from fate and have been saved are told to walk the covenant journey patiently, hoping only for the day when they will return to their hometown. The saints must hold on to the promise that was spoken of until the angels come to fetch them and live a life of always rejoicing and serving the church and neighbors in need. However, if we return to the state of the old self and our free will belongs to the flesh and worldly desires are triggered, hatred and resentment will arise. Love and resentment show opposite work. You probably know the results of an experiment that showed that when the same water was put in two cups and words of resentment was attached to one cup and words of love were attached to the other cup, the water molecules changed in two completely opposite way. I hope that you will hold on to the hope of returning to your hometown in heaven, always live a life of gratitude and self-sufficiency, and live a life of helping and serving one another. The patience and waiting of the saints must be kept firm in their hearts until the day of their death so that the great joy and excitement of salvation will grow. The words “strengthen your hearts” mean that you should not have two hearts, but look to God with all your heart. Not having two hearts means that you should not straddle God and the world. Do not envy the people of the world, but yearn for the blessings of heaven that the Lord has promised.

3. The way to avoid becoming a slave to money is simple.

You must know how to share. The way to do this is to help orphans and widows and to live a proper life of giving. Offering, especially tithing, is a confession that acknowledges that the owner of my wealth is not me but God. Therefore, if we properly tithe or give offerings, we will live a life where money does not rule over me, but God rules over me. In particular, there are many benefits to living a perfect tithe life, but the greatest benefit is that we are liberated from the control of money. Even if the economic situation is difficult, if you say, “I am not a slave to money, but a co-worker of God,” and give what you have to God, you will experience many truly amazing things happening.

There are many people around the saved saints who are not saved and are going to eternal destruction. For them, we must invest the time, material, and effort that has been entrusted to us in saving souls. Helping them to be saved in this way is investing in eternity and storing up treasures in heaven.

The fundamental principle of economy for the saints who have been saved and escaped from fate is that God is the owner of all things and that God has entrusted them to us. The material itself should not be the purpose, but the will of the One who gave it to us should be the purpose. We who believe have received the solution to all our problems through Christ, and now we live for a while as people of Christ. Whether the property entrusted to us is large or small, the issue is how we treat the wealth of this world. God does not give us wealth to accumulate, but to use it well. He calls those who do not care much about using it well according to God's will but do not spare it for themselves the wicked rich.

Farmers do not doubt that the harvest season of autumn will come. Likewise, saints do not doubt the promise of a heavenly homeland and an eternal crown. Saints are pilgrims who overcome today’s hardships, endure, and live by holding onto the promise, always looking forward to the day when they will return and meet the Lord. This world is a place where we stay for a while, and our true homeland is in heaven. Therefore, I sincerely hope that all of us will hold onto the hope of this heaven and live beautiful lives.
